Hello,
I am wondering why I can not apt-get the new kde31, my source.list:
...
rpm ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt SuSE/8.1-i386 base sax2
kde usr-local-bin packman-i586 packman-i686 packman-noarch security
suse-people suser-tcousin extra # mozilla
...
When I try to upgrade the kde3 packages, I still got kde3.0.3 :
$ sudo apt-get -f -s install kdebase3
Password:
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
The following packages will be upgraded
kdebase3
1 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 removed and 688 not upgraded.
Inst kdebase3 (3.0.3-114 SuSE:8.1/stable)
Conf kdebase3 (3.0.3-114 SuSE:8.1/stable)
Any of you have done the same?
Regards!

1) download all the rpms to a directory [step 2 and 3 as root] 2) cd to that directory 3) rpm -Uvh *rpm
I wonder how make an automatic upgrade. YOU -> Yast Online Update

It doesn't appear that SuSE has these packages officially available from their FTP servers, you need to get the RPMs from kde's ftp servers. You should be able to find a list of mirrors on the main site www.kde.org. -- Preston Kutzner | IT Manager "The four building blocks of the universe are fire, water, gravel and vinyl." -- Dave Barry

SuSE (and the mirror sites) have had them available since Tuesday morning.

It's being worked on very hard to get it available for 8.1. The component name may become kde3 or kde-3.1 or something like that, keep on eye on that. In this case 7.3 and 8.0 users have an advantage as kde-3.1 is already available for them via apt :) Op woensdag 29 januari 2003 16:38, schreef Yongtao Yang:

Oh I see. Thanks Richard! By the way, recently I found apt-get became very slow, is it because more and more users converted to apt ?:) Regards! Yongtao yongtao.yang@telia.com

Oh I see. Thanks Richard!
kde3 is now available for 8.1 as well. The component has been named kde3-stable.

Unfortenately not. AFAIK it has to do with the bandwidth that has been reserved for non paying users. Which has been brought down, as you and me notice. That's the way it is. -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

I looked on ftp.gwdg.de, but there's nothing in the 8.1 apt KDE directory what reminds me on 3.1... Where did you find it, can you give me the URL plese?

Like me - can you give me a _very_ short howto for apt under 8.1? Regards, René

Thiis short how-to if for people who want to use apt to install or update individual packages. If you want to see what will happen when you apt-get install a apacke without _actualy_ doing it, run apt-get -s install packagename to search for a package, run apt-cache search packagename For example I wanted to know what netscape packages I could install so I did the following: apt-cache search netscape and got back a list of avaible packages to install, for example, netscape-plugins Occasionally someoen's repositry will be haywire and you'll get back feed back from apt. When this happens you can remove the repository (at least temporarily) from /etc/apt/sources.list and run apt-get update again. For more info, read the web page. It really won't take you that long to read the home page of the web site, there's no need to use the man pages or anything like that. -- ---------------------------------------------------- Jonathan Wilson Cedar Creek Software http://www.cedarcreeksoftware.com
