Hi,
I'm now trying to configure my ATI 9600 on my suse 9.1.
I dowloaded the latest driver from ATI site (.rpm) and followed the
instructions on the site itself:
rpm -Uh --force

.rpm and I had this log:
Hi. You need to download the two rpm's from SuSE's supplementary FTP. There is also a readme file there which gives your SuSE's step-by-step instructions. Be sure to follow them closely. ftp://mirror.mcs.anl.gov/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/X/ATI/suse91/fglrx/3.14.6/ (or your mirror of choice) 3.14.6 is the latest version, although my ATI 9700 PRO didn't like this diver too much so if you have any problems you should try 3.14.1. Be sure to backup your XF86Config file first in case the driver becomes unhappy. I would install these rpm's at run level 3. If you don't know how to do this run this command with root privileges in a konsole: init 3 Then follow SuSE's install instructions. Once you're finished I would run SuSEconfig and then reboot. -- Jake Sallee spark@breathdedeeply.com www.breathedeeply.com Registered Linux User #358012 http://counter.li.org

All seem to work correctly. Only few problems during removing fglrx previously installed. What a pleasure to see tux on the snow without scattering!!! Thanks. Massimiliano -- \ | / (@ @) -----oOO-(_)-OOo---------- Vari Massimiliano varimass@tiscali.it ------------------------------
Following Sunny example this is, step by step, the procedure I followed to configure 3D acceleration in my ATI 9600 ( but I think it's useful for most of ATI cards): 1. Download from ftp://mirror.mcs.anl.gov/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/X/ATI/suse91/fglrx/ (thanks to Jake Sallee) 2. Update XFree86 drivers Neptune: # rpm -Uhv fglrx*.rpm 3. Update kernel module Neptune:# cd /usr/src/linux Neptune:# rm -f .config Neptune:# make cloneconfig Neptune:# make prepare-all Neptune:# rm -rf /usr/src/kernel-modules/fglrx 4. Install kernel module source Neptune:# rpm -Uhv km_fglrx*.rpm 5. Compile kernel module sources Neptune:# cd /usr/src/kernel-modules/fglrx Neptune:# KERNEL_SOURCE=/usr/src/linux make modules Neptune:# KERNEL_SOURCE=/usr/src/linux make install Neptune:# depmod -a 6. Configure X11 Neptune:# sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx -b /usr/X11R6/lib/sax/profile/firegl Don't configure 3D acceleration in this phase 7. Enable 3D support Add Load "dri" in Section "Module" of /etc/X11/XF86Config Add Option "NoTV" "no" , Option "TVStandard" "PAL-D" and Option "UseInternalAGPGART" "yes" in in Section "Device" in /etc/X11/XF86Config Remove "06" from COLDPLUG_PCI_CLASSES_WHITELIST in /etc/sysconfig/hotplug. 8. Reboot the system This is only an abstract of readme file. I hope it will be useful to anyone facing problems with ATI cards.
