[opensuse] Weird mail selection in kmail
Something that I find annoying but it is not a showstopper, is when I try to select block of email messages. I click on the first message and then hold down the shift key and click another message listed (say ten messages) below. I find that not all the messages are selected within that range and sometimes messages outside of the range are included in the selection. I am using KMail version 1.13.3 on KDE 4.4.3. I was just wondering if anyone else has seen this behaviour. My annoyance is that I have to do the selection process more than once to delete a block of messages and my anxiety is that I will accidentally delete a message that is not in the block that I have selected for deletion. Any thoughts? Thanks Eddie -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I suspect your problem has to do with how the messages are presented and grouped on your display. Try what happens when you choose a different presentation (unthreaded, unsorted ...) However, the safest seems to me to not hold down the shift key to select a range of messages, but rather to hold down the ctrl-key instead and click on each message you want to select. That way you will have to do ten clicks in your example but you can be sure that all the messages you clicked on, and no other messages, will be selected. I thread by subject in date order and often have more than 100 messages to sort through in a day. So I tend to delete several threads once I glance at the topic. Having to select each message individually would be a big no-no for me. Besides, I'm not sure that selection behaviour is the intended or desired behaviour. Thanks anyway. I guess I must be unique in the way I order my messages. Eddie -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

If you right click a grouped message you can pick "delete group". This does however not work if you select multiple groups which might be a bug to report at bugs.kde.org. Sven -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Sorting by subject and date can leave threads scattered throughout the list. You would be better off to sort by thread and date which would keep the thread together. Had that problem myself before learning more about threads. The problem occurs when someone sends a reply to a thread but composes it as a new message, just copying the subject. Threads have information within the headers which identifies the thread which a "new" message won't have. Hope that explanation makes sense.
