SuSE 8.1 Installation
Every time I make an attempt to finish the installation of SuSE 8.1 from one of the ftp mirror sites I get a "file not found on server" error. I have been absolutely punctilious about making sure that the ip address and path to the i586 file are correct and have gone to three or four different sites. I've tested using WS_FTP Pro and I can connect to the file, but of course, you can't approach installation that way. What gives here; is this high traffic or what? I've created and re-created the Module disks also. John Lowell

Please break your lines at roughly 70 characters. This question was already asked and answered within the last 24 hours. The mirrors are probably not completely filled yet. Try again later. (In a day or two.) Regards Ole

... Attempt to finish? It sounds like you are upgrading a running machine,
and it starts out using passive FTP (/etc/wgetrc : passive_ftp = on), but
then the "new improved" wgetrc gets installed with passive off. Can you,
at that point, boot the rescue system, edit the file (remember to both
uncomment the line and change off -> on), and then try to finish?
Assuming one has downloaded the floppy-based rescue system in advance.
By the way, here's the once-per-day admonition: YOU won't connect to FTP
servers through a firewall or NAT box because of the issue mentioned above,
and it's findable on http://sdb.suse.de/en/ by a keyword search using "YOU
connect", or in the archives of this mailing list.
