[opensuse] upgrade server?
My text only server for nfs, nis and squid is running 10.3. Would I gain anything upgrading to 11.0? Thanks. L x -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I have a couple of similar servers plus my desktop. My goal is to keep everything running a supported release. I upgrade my desktop first as a sort of test. Then I upgrade one of the servers a couple months later. I rotate the server upgrades to be off by one. So currently I have one server at 10.2 and one at 10.3, and my desktop has been at 11.0 for a few weeks. 10.2 will be loosing security updates at some point (Dec. 2008?) Prior to that I will upgrade that server to 11.0, but if for some unforeseen reason it has issues, I can back off to 10.3 which has been running my other server for the better part of a year. FYI: The above gives me reasonable testing and I do a 100% backup of the servers before I upgrade them so if I have to revert I can do so. IMHO 11.0 is fairly solid on the server side - at least you'd benefit from better package management, but depending on your situation that may or may not be a big deal. Joe -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

For the services primm uses 11.0 is fine. Some other services do not work well. The radius server is completely broken and samba as PDC with LDAP doesn't work well, too. Herbert -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
