Anyone got this to run on one of Mantel's 2.4 builds? Specifically on the
2.4.16 build?

Never got it working. There are a few rejects when patching. Regards, Charles -- The box saids Windows XP or better, so I installed Linux
I could not get it to work for the NVIDIA drivers in xwindown. It gave me some very
strange error messages which I did not record. I downgraded to the last stable (IMHO)
version and then had to run the command to create the module dependencies.
Ah well, hope for better in the future. SuSE has done a great job overall. Nice security
and safe system. (I have never been hacked, SO FAR)

Sorry, but I forgot, This was the first kernel update that failed so badly.
If anyone can direct me to the proper means of settign up my system with the new kernel,
that would be greatly appreciated.

You need to recompile nVidia's kernal driver and reinstall it whenever you change kernel versions. Although nVidia does not provide full source code, they do provide source gzipped tar archives and I think rebuildable source rpms with the source you need to use it on a new kernel.

Hubert's kernels are very heavily patched already. If you want to run your own patches, do so, but don't be suprised when they don't work on Hubert's tree. Sorry that I can't be of any help, but what exactly is in Hubert's kernels that you want? Can you not get *those* patches directly from their respective sources and figure out which sequence breaks the chain? -- -=|JP|=- Need a good geek? I'm unemployed! Yeah, but as 2.4.17 has already hit the shores so to speak I won't do anymore digging around, but will, time permitting, start the hunt with the next build based on Hubert's work. Kernel pre-empting alledgedly speeds up desktop perfomance and is not included in Hubert's tree, you can tell when its there with the name "Kernel pre-emptive" in the processor section. Matt
