[opensuse] hwclock problem: "select() to /dev/rtc to wait for clock tick timed out"
Sorry in advance if this has been answered previously, but I haven't found an answer which works for me to this point. The problem is this: under openSUSE 10.3 (2.6.22.17-0.1-default) 'hwclock' used to work for reading and setting my Dell Latitude 830's hardware clock via /dev/rtc, but it seems to have stopped functioning at some point and I hadn't realized it till now. I've already tried using the '--directisa' alternative to /dev/rtc, but that doesn't seem to work either. I can set the HW clock OK manually via the BIOS on startup, so it seems to be functioning at that level. I've attached some output below which may be of assistance in diagnosing the problem. Carlos, Never saw that error msg myself. Only the "select() to /dev/rtc to wait for clock tick timed out" one ever appears and now it always happens when I run hwclock. I've seen some references to this being a problem with Dell machines in particular, but none of the fixes I've tried seems to have cured it. Thanks. --ted Carlos E.
