SuSE Linux 10.1: USB HD no longer mounting r/w
Hi all, I have been running SuSE Linux 10.0 for a year or so and decided to install a fresh install of SuSE Linux 10.1. I have a USB hard drive that I use to to backups and store other files on which when I plugged it in on 10.0, I could read and write to just fine as my normal user. The drive has a label so it automatically gets mounted under /media/<label> when I plug it in. Now that I have installed 10.1, I plug the same drive in and it still gets mounted in the same place but it is read-only for normal users. How do I change this behavior back to the other way? This does not get mounted using an entry in /etc/fstab so the settings for mounting USB media automatically must be somewhere else and they must be different than they were in 10.0. Any ideas? Thanks. -- Marc Christensen http://blog.mecworks.com

So, why not put an entry in fstab? That way it will be set uo the way you want it when its pluged in. -- _____________________________________ John Andersen

Well, that would be fine for this drive probably but the behavior is not the way I like - it impacts other drives that I use to move data between other computers. Having automount working makes it easy for someone without root privileges to use the drives and move them easily between machines without having to mount/unmount them - just plugin, unplug. I'd still like the original behavior back.... -- Marc C.

I just put in bug #201648 at bugzilla,novell.com which is similar to some other bugs in the list. You can go 'vote' for it if you like... which may raise its priority a little in the eyes of the bug-fixers.
