KDE 3.3.1 MAJOR PROBLEMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just compiled kde 3.3.1 on suse 9.1 kernel 2.6.8 vanilla qt 3.3.3 (compiled) and kcontrol says that I have only: CDE MS Windows 9x Motif Motif Plus Platinum SGI as my styles. I have so far compiled (in this order): qt-3.3.3 arts-1.3.1 kdelibs-3.3.1 kdebase-3.3.1 kdeartwork-3.3.1 thinkeramik-3.2.1 even thinkeramik style is missing! The colors and window-decorations are there though. What is wrong?????????????????
Why did you bother to compile kde 3.3.1. KDE 3.3.1 rpms are available
from supplementary. I have been using them for last couple of days and
they are working just fine.

Well, shouting the subject is wrong, but you asked. SuSE is an *RPM* based system and depends on finding it's files in the rpm database. If you *compiled* the styles, and installed them with 'make install', they do *not* appear in the database and kpackage cannot find them. There is a utility to replace the 'make install' phase/step called checkinstall which will make an rpm for you to install and this will update the rpm database. The SuSE Admin/User manuals (books or installed) will assist you here. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos

Hmmm... I didn't know that. Good tip. Jeff

included in the SuSE distro's, but useful in many distro's. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos
Please calm down. You're yelling (capitals in subject) and exaggerating (dozens of exclamation marks). I, for example, do not appreciate that. Posting alone is enough to attract our attention. On Saturday 16 October 2004 00:56, Steven Pasternak wrote:

Compiling is not enough, did you install them? And if you did, perhaps there is something wrong with your configuration? Check the logs, see if there is a clue. Cheers, Leen
