Does anyone remember how to do this in 7.1?
Yes, I know its much too old, but... How to add an alias ip address to a NIC? Assume eth0 has 123.45.67.89 working fine now. How to add 77.44.33.11 to eth0, so that it listens on both addresses? man ifconfig is not revealing. Someday I'm going to have to get brave and update that machine Thanks in advance. Open rc.config (don't know for sure, but I think it's the right place in 7.1) and edit/add the following entries: # two interfaces NETCONFIG "_0 _1" # IP Addresses IPADDR_0="77.44.33.11" IPADDR_1="77.44.33.12" # <-- add alias IP here #network devices NETDEV_0="eth0" NETDEV_1="eth0:0" # <-- for your alias IP With these modifications the alias survives a reboot. If you need to add an alias temporarily enter: # ifconfig eth0:0 77.44.33.12 netmask xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx up on the command line. A ping to the address should then be answered. \Steve

Thanks much Steve, worked fine. Michael -- Michael Fischer Happiness is a config option. michael@visv.net Recompile and be happy.
