From where is YaST2/7.1 getting updates?
The answer may be right under my nose, but I'm not seeing it. If I go to the SuSE FTP site, I see packages which are fresher than what I got with the 7.1 distribution. If I tell YaST2 to update it finds some stuff, but not nearly as much as I see on the FTP site. This freshness issue is one good reason to understand where YaST2 is going for these updates. Another good reason is that it's dangerous to allow my computer go out connecting to servers I know nothing about. Any ideas? Steve

ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/update/7.1/ The patches/ sub-directory has the info files for the online update.
Hi Michael, Does this mean that YOU only updates patches, and not the entire system? Is there a way to make it search for other packages if this is true? I was hoping to grab a copy of KDE 2.1 off of it (btw, if it does update the entire system, when might KDE 2.1 be on it?)... Not _yet_ but it can update itself that's why it doesn't matter what it can do now ;-)

Hi again Michael, Thanks for the reply. So, hopefully, sometime before the 7.2 release YOU should update itself (sounds like bad English, doesn't it?), so that it can download stuff like KDE updates, tool updates, Kernel updates, etc.? Michael, Thanks for the answer. I still find this a bit confusing. If I browse through the FTP site you point to above I see many packages with newer version numbers than the ones I have installed. Nonetheless, these more recent packages do not show up in the list of package available for update when using YaST2. Can you explain this seeming inconsistency? Thanks, Steve

As I said, see sub-directory patches/ for the info files "YOU" uses. It only shows those patches. Right now YOU has a flat display of all the patches so if we show all it get's a little crowded, so only the hard stuff like important security fixes is there.
