Upgraded from KDE 8.0 to 8.1 and now have problems...help
So I upgraded to 8.1, although don't ask how....it was a hell of a process in which only another mad man could relate to. Anyway, upon trying to open any kde app (like Konqueror), I get the following error: Could not start process Unable to create io-slave: klauncher said: Error loading 'kio_file'. When I close the program, I get a crash notice. Any thoughts here? Thanks, Tom --- Tom Nielsen Neuro Logic Systems, Inc. 805.389.5435 x18 www.neuro-logic.com

I had a similar problem some tme ago. Here's how I fixed it: 1) Boot into run-level 3 2) rm -r /tmp/kio_* 3) Reboot I'm sure that someone will offer a more elegant solution. -- JAY VOLLMER JVOLLMER@VISI.COM TEXT REFS DOUBLEPLUSUNGOOD SELFTHINK VERGING CRIMETHINK IGNORE FULLWISE

This is all I have in my tmp directory. . .X11-unix ksocket-root .. .font-unix ksocket-tom .ICE-unix .wine-tom mcop-tom .SuSEconfig.java.b2yi0e 1543512213 medusa-idled-service .SuSEconfig.java.gXNMJ6 evolution-500-8581 orbit-tom .SuSEconfig.java.urOlXB kde-root .X0-lock kde-tom Maybe this is why I need to be in level 3? * Jay Vollmer (jvollmer@visi.com) [030303 22:45]: -> ->1) Boot into run-level 3 ->2) rm -r /tmp/kio_* ->3) Reboot -> When your looking at the KDM login screen just type.. ctrl+alt+F2 You will be at a console login prompt. You want to login as root then type.. rcxdm stop This will shutdown KDM so you can remove all that stuff out of tmp. I would remove anything related to KDE..including kde-<user>, ksocket-<user>, mcop-<user>. I would also cd into /home/<your username> and remove .mcop* and in the .kde directory in your home directory remove the 2 tmp files there. Once this is completed you can just type this.. rcxdm start Which should start KDM back up and you can log in. Remember that KDE might be a bit slow to start just this time because it's recreating tmp files and directories..just give it a few extra seconds. :) latah, -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org Tell me what you believe.. Thanks to both! I'll give it a shot. If you don't hear from me, something went wrong and I went to bed :-) Tom On Mon, 2003-03-03 at 22:53, Ben Rosenberg wrote:

I tried this and it doesn't work. All I get is a gray screen with a cursor. Gnome works fine and KDE as root also works a little bit. Tom On Mon, 2003-03-03 at 22:53, Ben Rosenberg wrote:
