yast2 repositories in place of apt repositories ?
I notice that updates to smart (on SuSE 10.0) have been removing the pointers to the 'apt-rpm' format repositories (e.g., on gwdg.de) and have instead substituted pointers to 'yast2' format repositories. For SuSE 10.0, will the existing 'apt-rpm' repositories DISAPPEAR ?? [I don't subscribe to SuSE announcement lists. If such a change is in the works, PLEASE send an announcement to this list as well.] Thanks, mikus

Can you be more specific. Which pointers, where (on the server, local on your system)?? AFAIK the apt repository is up to date and will be kept up to date. -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

I had put my own thoughts into what information (and HOW it was expressed) was placed in my /etc/smart/channels directory [long before upgrades of smart started unconditionally modifying it]. My upset was because an upgrade of smart, WITHOUT ASKING FOR MY PERMISSION, __replaced__ some of that information with its own. [Yes, when I next started 'smart --gui', it *did* ask permission to transfer the new information from /etc/smart/channels to its own internal cache. But as far as I was concerned, the damage had already been done -- /etc/smart/channels had been ravaged.] I'll accept substitution of new information when the previous information is being officially deprecated -- hence my question to this list. [But your answer makes me think that the change was made for load-balancing purposes, without consideration of which index format needs less time on my dial-up line for an 'update'.] To answer your question -- my /etc/smart/channels directory had its contents changed. Two examples of such changes: File 'packman-gwdg.channel' was removed: [packman-apt] name = Packman 3rd party package repository for SUSE Linux on ftp.gwdg.de baseurl = http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/10.0-i386 type = apt-rpm components = packman and replaced with file 'packman.channel': [packman] name = Packman 3rd party package repository baseurl = http://packman.inode.at/suse/10.0 type = yast2 File 'suser-guru-gwdg.channel' was removed: [guru-apt] name = suser-guru 3rd party package repository for SUSE Linux on ftp.gwdg.de baseurl = http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/10.0-i386 type = apt-rpm components = suser-guru and replaced with file 'guru.channel': [guru] name = Guru 3rd party package repository baseurl = http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/suser-guru/rpm/10.0/ type = yast2 mikus
