Hello, I've tried looking in documentation and online support pages, but I can't seem to find information on connecting a SuSE linux machine to a Netware server. Can someone tell me an easy way to do this, or point me in the right direction to get info on linux and Netware? Thanks -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
Take a look at the IPX-HowTo: http://www.spade.com/linux/howto/IPX-HOWTO.html Also, definitely check out MARS_NWE. http://freshmeat.net/appindex/1999/02/03/918027956.html Nadeem Dennis wrote:

I've got connections to NW4 working just fine using IPX and NCP tools, but no success with NW5 - due to NDS crap and and new logon procedured. Caldera has tools to do that (NW5 conn), but I didn't manage to get it working - neither under Suse 6.1 or 6.3. Novell has a NDS client for Linux, but it's at beta and not available to public. I wish Novell would just go away or at least evaporate, or go back to "file & print server only" thing. On Fri, 18 Feb 2000, Nadeem Hasan wrote:

The thing about NetWare 5 is that it does native IP instead of IPX. If you try to logon using IPX, NetWare has to translate IPX to IP again. You may want to try logging on using the 4.x client using IP. Rogier Jyry Kuukkanen wrote:

I think someone mentioned somewhere that Novell made come changes on NCP side, so even if you run NW5 with IPX and with NW3 emulation it doesnät really help. On Wed, 23 Feb 2000, Rogier Maas wrote:

Well, that's true. But still: Those changes aren't dramatic and NetWare uses the 'old' way if clients ask for it. NetWare is always downwards compatible. If you have a client that can connect to NetWare 4 with IPX on an NDS-level, you can also connect to NetWare 5 if it is configured to use IPX. They communicate in the same way, although you may want to disable some 'features': SET Allow Unencrypted Passwords = ON SET NCP Packet Signature Option = 2 (or lower) is what I'd like to recommend. NetWare uses an encryption for it's passwords, but Linux (or UNIX clients) can't do that, so every login fails. On Linux, you might check your IPX configuration: IPX_AUTO_PRIMARY=off IPX_AUTO_INTERFACE=on IPX_CONFIGURED=yes IPX_DEVICE=eth0 IPX_FRAME=802.3 IPX_INTERNAL_NET=yes IPX_NETNUM=0x8945ba5b (internal IPX network number) IPX_EXT_NETNUM=0x00000006 (external IPX network number, MUST be the same as ALL machines on the same network (segment)) IPX_EXT_NETNUM is a valid setting that corresponds to that of the IPX network and "ifconfig" shows that IPX 802.3 runs on the eth0 card. Note that I used Ethernet_802.3 here, in stead of the newer Ethernet_802.2, because Linux can't do the nifty stuff like packet signatureing and encryption. You may also want to try this if you run NDS on a Linux box: Edit the script /etc/rc.d/init.d/ndsd and increase the sleep time to 6 seconds (depends on the machine, the slower the machine higher should be sleep time)and then restart ndsd. It should work fine. Good luck! Rogier Maas (Certified NetWare Engineer 3,4,5 btw ;-) ) Jyry Kuukkanen wrote:
