[opensuse] Configuring for new HD monitor
I'm trying to change my monitor from a VGA LCD monitor to an HD 1080p one. I have an NVidea GeForce 7300 GS video card. When I try to enable the HD monitor, using the NVidea utility, I get an error message that it cannot save the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup. It makes no difference whether or not I tell it to merge with the existing file. Any way around this? Until then, I can't enable this monitor, which is recongnized by the NVidea configuration utility. tnx jk -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I have to ask the obvious.... You were doing this as root, right? -- If stupidity got us into this mess, then why can't it get us out? - Will Rogers -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

That was the problem, which I just realized a couple of minutes ago. That utility, unlike SAX2 etc., doesn't require root to run. Now to see how this works. I've enabled the new monitor and left the old VGA enabled as well. tnx -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I had to disable the VGA display, as it tried to show a wide screen image and everything is too far to the right and a whole new desktop with the new KDE menu style was on the new monitor. With the VGA disabled, everything is fine on HD. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
