[opensuse] btrfs fsck at boot??
Over the w/e I converted my 12.2 desktop to 12.3 by the 'change the repository and zypper up' method. A few problems with kde4 that I don't think have to do with me - more n that later. As regular readers will recall, this desktop is running one big btrfs that occupies the whole disk. No separate /boot or anything. This was a 'show it can be done' exercise and on the whole is doing well. Going over the boot messages in more detail to make sure all is well, post conversion, I notice a few errors reported from the btrfs startup. They don't seem to affect function, but it makes me wonder... I can't run btrfsck (yes I know its depreciated) or the equivalent on a mounted file system after boot. I do know that the other systems I have run the other FS fsck at boot. How can I get 12.3 to run btrfsck at boot? -- How long did the whining go on when KDE2 went on KDE3? Not necessarily regressions but *probably* patches that were not necessary for 12.3. Remember 12.3 is *not* 12.2, and has different packages and requirements. Also remember that *everything* is not back-ported. :^) -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

When I did the same as you with a recent factory milestone, I noticed the same "problem". I used zypper se -s <package-of-interest> to see what my current versions were and what the downgrade was. I did actually find a couple packages that were a true downgrade, the rest were "point" release downgrades, where the "point" release was not part of the upstream version number, but were a add-on suffix created by OBS (opensuse build service). The OBS point release is not well controlled between the various repos, so doesn't mean much that there is a small drop in that point release number. You definitely want the versions from the 12.3 repos. Greg -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Read the upgrade procedure instructions. You have to disable ALL extra repositories, leave only the official repos (oss, non-oss, updates) and then do the zypper dup. If you want to do it differently, YOU write new documentation on how to do that sucessfully. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. Then go back and repeat, because you absolutely need to use "zypper dup" for that operation, not "up".
