Somehow, my sr0 is missing from /dev. I have no doubt that I did it, even though I haven't the foggiest of how. Anyway, that's academic at this point. What can I do to get it back? There has to be a way. tia ---Michael

If you have kernel-sources installed, you have a file called /usr/src/linux/Documentation/devices.txt If you look through that, and search for sr0, you will find it's a block device, major 11 minor 0. If you look in the file I'm sure you'll see how it's organised. Then, "mknod /dev/sr0 b 11 0" will recreate it.

Thanks much. Esp. for giving me some references to read. Appreciate it much. ---Michael
Thanks, Anders, for all your contributions here. You do not only help, but you explain. So we do not only have solutions, but understand and learn. This is very very helpful and greatly appreciated! Thanks, Matt On Sunday 20 April 2003 20:31, Anders Johansson wrote:
