Since your using mozilla kde doesn't come into it. I had a go at doing what you described and was partially successful.

I edited ~/.xinitrc to change the line exec $WINDOWMANAGER to /usr/local/mozilla/mozilla -- -geometry 1280x1024-0-0

and altered ~/.bashrc so that the last line said "exit"

The idea being that when that user logged in they got mozilla, instead of a window manager, and mozilla would be opened up to fill the screen. When mozilla died a shell would appear, don't ask me why, but by adding "exit" to ~/.bashrc it disappears. With nothing left to do the xserver shut down.

The only problem is that mozilla didn't fill the screen, anybody know why?

http://dot.kde.org In one of the 1st articles kde-kiosk is mentioned. The explanation there is the best that is available at the moment.

Just a thought.. But why use KDE at all at that point? Just have the user login, and exec mozilla from a xinitrc file or something.. No need to run all the kde "stuff" if all you need is a browser...

Yes, he's right. But I still don't understand how I start to do locking. OK, I will try to use APT from Erlangen University as Richard suggested. But now, I am still confused to do KDE Locking.

I think we need an XWindows (window manager) to launch mozilla. Am I wrong? Please tell me.

You would still need X, you just don't need any window manager.

All you need is a minimal .xinitrc for each user, which should look something like this:

You can adjust the width and height parameters to suit your display resolution.

Having deployed publically-accesible web-based kiosk systems, though, I would suggest looking into using Galeon instead of Mozilla for the simple reason that Galeon can be started in fullscreen mode automatically.

Yep, there's a problem with mozilla not obeying the --geometry instruction.

This just happened to catch my eye, as I've otherwise been ignoring the thread. Speaking from experience, Moz is a royal PITA to set up for a kiosk system. I have deployed publically-accessable limited-purpose kiosks using SuSE, and ended up using Galeon, which handles fullscreen nicely, as well as sticking to the geometry given it. I used the Kiosk-HOWTO as a basic guideline, modified to fit my needs.

If anyone is interested, I think I might be able to dig up my old notes.
