Thanks for this information Hartmut, it seems to have fixed my IMAP problems now (atleast locally, I haven't tried a connection from a windows box yet) in that I can see the mail tree I imported from my old server. Now the problem seems to have moved to fetchmail/procmail. I'm using the procmail scripts I had working fine on the old server, but there not getting called (I think). I couldn't get fetchmail to work until I moved /etc/fetchmailrc to ~/.fetchmailrc and ran fetchmail as user rather than root (does that sound correct, given that YaST puts it in /etc/fetchmail)? The mail that is collected comes in as user@localhost rather than user@mydomain which I think is throwing off procmail (although as I said, there are no procmail logs, so I'm not sure that its even getting called). The mail was downloaded onto the system but I can't find it anywhere at the moment (any clues)? Where should I look for these sort of problems? Thanks again. I'm having some interesting problems with authentication on a new SuSE install that seems to be working quite differently to an 8.1 system.
My IMAP installation simply won't authenticate (although I see from the list that I need to add a key to get this working, and that's not a bad thing if it works). I guess I'm surprised that the only help I can find on the system is about an IMAP implementation that isn't installed by default and makes no mention of this authentication that I can find.
Do I need a key for each user?
With 8.2 IMAP does not allow cleartext passwords unless the connection is secured (SSL). There is an article in the support data base, but as I just realised, it's not yet translated into English :-( You might grasp the neccessary info from the German article: http://sdb.suse.de/de/sdb/html/imap_ssl.html You also will need the official IMAP server update (via YOU), because the SSL certificate will not be found otherwise.
