I seem to have been the victim of a pipe-dream, in that I recall seeing a good HOWTO for setting up Postfix, Spamassassin and one of the virus-scanners, in which one of the steps included turning on a content_filter in POstfix on port 10025 or 10026. That being said, I can't find the bloody thing again!!!!!!! Would some kind soul be willing to tell me where it is? I've looked in /usr/share/doc/packages under spamassassin, postfix and antivir, but can't find anything that is useful. I've tried using the procmail method that is listed under perl-spamassassin (:0 hbfk \| /usr/bin/spamassassin -P) but that's not working well enough... CAuses some odd issues that I'm catching flack about. Google has NOT been my friend. :( Please, anyone... Someone! -- Regards, Geordon M. Yes, I checked, bur it really isn't on my system. Reason is that 'postfix' is not installed on my system. I do have 'sendmail' which appears to be conflicting with postfix (when I try to install it). At least this explains why I don't have that directory. Question remains : do I miss some relevant information about spamassassin in ..../postfix/html/index.html ? Do a 'locate spamassassin' and look thru the results. Investigate. You will learn about your system. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org

AHHHRGH! I'm going to get a headache. :-} Of course, you can't look at postfix documentation if you don't have postfix installed. I thought you were the original poster, Geordon - just look at the subject header.

Right, you can not install sendmail at the same time as postfix, because they do the same job - unless you force it, of course. Or you can look at the insides of the rpm file with mc (midnight commander) without installing it.

I don't think so. But you will have a /usr/share/doc/packages/sendmail/* directory with docs, and you may grep there for references to spamassassin. Or do a simple "locate spamassassin", as Patrick suggests. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

Hmm, this gets interesting. 1. Grep tells me there is no reference to anything like spam* in /usr/share/ doc/packages/sendmail/* But that is quite possible I guess. 2. But also, my system has no "locate" command !!!!??? I know this is a regular Linux command, but is just isn't there. (I also checked in /bin). How could this be ? I guess you are supposed to use the GUI find. But I like updatedb/ locate also, and it seems faster to me. Go to YAST Software Install and search for findutils. -- "Don't you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? Could be. By the way, I usually do those text searches with 'mc' instead (midnight commander) because it allows me to view the found files in context. There is no GUI close to what mc can do - surprisingly.

Locate (and updatedb) is not installed by default since... probably SuSE 8.1 or 8.1 (security reasons, I understand). You can easily find it with yast and install it - if it fails, tell it to search even descriptions. And if it fails, use pin instead, which never fails to find a file from the CDs, be it installed or not - but of course, pin can not install them. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
