converting pdf file
Hello list members: This is not a suse rather a linux specific issue. I have a pdf file in which the sizes of the pages are half of an A4. So two of tese pages would fit one A4 page, one below the other. Is there a GUI program or frontend to the different ps programs that I could use for convertig my file to a ps or pdf like this? I have no iniciative to learn the console programs with their zillion options. I've already tried kpdf with kprint with turning on the "pages per sheet 2" option but it organized the pages wrongly (beside each other). Thanks for helping, IG ________________________________________________________________________ Halld és lásd a 20. századot! I can solve that in console, but as you are not interested, I will not explain how to do it... - -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Made with pgp4pine 1.76 iD8DBQFDvlXYtTMYHG2NR9URAspuAKCFjHEgdWtQLhA1e7+kCj5k41diYgCcDPOy 70M/OV4xOFA5wx+3QixNR2U= =jNsw -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Ok :-) First, convert the pdf to ps; this can be done from acrobat printing to file, or by using "pdftops" (xpdf package). Then, "psnup" (psutils package) joins two pages per page; for example, for double side printing on a single side printer, 2 pages per side, I use: psnup -2 p.ps | psselect -o > p_odd.ps psnup -2 p.ps | psselect -e > p_even.ps Finally, use "gv" to view the output before really printing. This program has some other utilities. - -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Made with pgp4pine 1.76 iD8DBQFDvoj2tTMYHG2NR9URAkGcAJ9RgTsBx6QDS+pw7NLwxCi+pHDijwCeJaK+ f9tWczkrXQVZ/uWbOS3c5e4= =+Ta7 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Thanks. But I still have problems. printing to
file, or by using "pdftops" (xpdf package). This step goes with no problems.
Then, "psnup" (psutils package) joins two pages per page; for example, for double side printing on a single side printer, 2 pages per side, I use:
psnup -2 p.ps | psselect -o > p_odd.ps psnup -2 p.ps | psselect -e > p_even.ps psnup does not produces the required output. If I use just "psnup -2 input.ps output.ps" the original pages are put beside each other. I want them below each other so I tried: "psnup -c -2" but this did not make any change. The original page size according to acroread: 20.811 x 14.921 cm. What would be the right command in this case? First of all get the package psutils, then at the command line type this in: pstops -b -q 2:-1L@1\(21cm,0\)+0L@1\(21cm,14.85cm\) XX.ps YY.ps This command will take two A5 size pages turn them and place them side by side. It will also correctly put the first page with the last page, for example my 20 page bulletin has pages 1 & 20 , then 2&19 etc. If you want to cut down A4 size pages to make two on one page change @1\(21cm,0\) to: @.7\(21cm,0\) If you are using US letter size paper you will need to play with the size and placement. Thanks for your help. Finally I've read the pstops man pages. Also found a good page how to use pstops at: http://wiki.scribus.net/index.php/ How_to_make_impositions_with_pstops All of this stuff and your examples helped a lot. Thanks!
