[opensuse] Postfix configuration
So I'm configuring postfix, and I am trying to send it out through postfix via my ISP's smtp server, and I got stuck with: relay=outgoing.verizon.net[206.46.232.12]:25, delay=3148, delays=3148/0.27/0.4/0, dsn=4.7.0, status=deferred (SASL authentication failed; cannot authenticate to server outgoing.verizon.net[206.46.232.12]: no mechanism available) in my main.cf: mydestination = $myhostname, $mydomain, localhost.$mydomain smtpd_sasl_security_options = noanonymous smtp_sasl_auth_enable = yes smtp_sasl_password_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/relay_passwords smtp_sasl_mechanism_filter = plain, login smtp_sasl_type = cyrus relayhost = outgoing.verizon.net in my relay_passwords.db: outgoing.verizon.net user:sercret # postconf -A cyrus Cyrus plain is installed and verizon accepts plain and login when starting postfix (or service postfix restart) in the /var/log/mail:: warning: SASL authentication failure: No worthy mechs found I hope all this information helps. I fixed it. I took out noanonymous from smtpd_sasl_security_options= -- Michael S. Dunsavage -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Urgh! The "smtpd_" at the beginning of the parameter says that this parameter configures the smtp daemon (as in smtpD), not the smtp client which you actually use to send mails to the provider. The daemon is used to RECEIVE mails, and you disabled a very important security check. Currently your system is an open relay if your server is directly accessable from the internet and the spammer tries to use anonymous auth. Or did you made a typo and actually meant smtp_sasl_security_options? -- Sandy List replies only please!
