Well, I may have solved some of the X issues I'm having. I don't think sax2 is setting things up properly or I failed (YaST2 failed) to install everything to have X work correctly. SaX2 says it's setting up DRI and GLX but in fact it's not. I puts the modules in /etc/X11/XF86Config but X fails to load them. Below is the output from glxgears. Yes, it's damn slow. :) 838 frames in 5.0 seconds = 167.600 FPS 960 frames in 5.0 seconds = 192.000 FPS 800 frames in 5.0 seconds = 160.000 FPS 893 frames in 5.0 seconds = 178.600 FPS 960 frames in 5.0 seconds = 192.000 FPS I run glxinfo and it says DRI is not enabled. In the XF86 log I see this.. (EE) RADEON(0): [agp] AGP not available (EE) RADEON(0): [drm] failed to remove DRM signal handler (II) RADEON(0): [drm] removed 1 reserved context for kernel DRIUnlock called when not locked I have these packages loaded. Could SOMEONE help an old fool out and tell me WTF I'm missing. I'd like to play UT :) xfntscl-4.2.0-176 xman-4.2.0-176 xmodules-4.2.0-176 xshared-4.2.0-176 xloader-4.2.0-176 xf86_glx-4.2.0-176 xf86-4.2.0-176 xdevel-4.2.0-176 xf86_glx-devel-4.2.0-176 xfnt100-4.2.0-176 XFree86-compat-libs-4.2.0-176 xextra-4.2.0-176 xfntcyr-4.2.0-176 xxprt-4.2.0-176 Thanks! -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org Tell me what you believe.. My 3d stuff *seems* to work. I can run the 3d screen savers, anyhow.
I get these:
hattons@ljosalfr:~> grep failed /var/log/XFree86.0.log
(WW) Open APM failed (/dev/apm_bios) (No such device)
(II) RADEON(0): VESA VBE DDC read failed
drmOpenDevice: Open failed
drmOpenDevice: Open failed
(EE) RADEON(0): [drm] failed to remove DRM signal handler

My /etc/X11/XF86Config looks like:
#########################################################################
# /.../
# SaX generated XFree86 config file
# Created on: 2002-06-24.
# HACKED BY HAND TO MAKE IT WORK WITH MY VIEWSONIC G810

XFree 4.2.0 in 8.1 has issues with the DRM (DRI) module. It can't load it and therefore every 3D program or screensaver is painfully slow. :( This kinda blows. I think I may just go back to 8.0. Screw this. -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org Tell me what you believe.. I tell you what you should see.

Did either of you get your ATI drivers from http://gatos.sourceforge.net/ ??? Only way I know of to get 3D support for ATI cards. Stan
