There is an earlier discussion on that with plenty of leads. Firstly, switching off apic helps and smp support if you don't need itas far as I recall check the archive.

I'm trying to get an Adpatec 2940 SCSI card to work under 8.1
This card woked fine under 8.0
Now I'm getting all sorts of SCSU timeout erors with "aic7xxx_abort returns 0x02002" messages...
Any ideas?
Is it that the aic7xxx driver is broken in the newer kernel? Please help...
thanks

What I do is to go to http://lists.suse.com/archive/ and select the list. This brings me to http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-linux-e/. I select a month like "Nov" or "Oct" and I use the browser find to find words in the "subject". I have the google toolbar installed on a windows machine which includes "search site". It is also mentioned in this list's "faq" document (send blank email to suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com). I get way too many hits when I do this and have not found it as useful. I haven't tried any of the archives mentioned below to see if they work better. FAQ snippet: -------------------------------------------------------------- Q1. Why don't you provide searchable archives of this list? A1. The archives are far too large to be indexed by us. Very complete archives that are searchable can be found here: http://www.geocrawler.com http://www.netsys.com/suse-linux-e/index.html http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/ Alternatively, you can prepend your search on Google.com with lists site:lists.suse.com E.g., to search for "lilo 1024" you would type lists site:lists.suse.com lilo 1024 into the search field. ---------------------------------------------------------------

We have a similar problem with 2930 controller under 8.1. I found lots of hits here and in the newsgroups. This is what we did: We created a new Grub entry with a boot parameter of: "acpi=no" On our motherboard the acpi controller is sharing an irq with another pci controller card. This irq is 9. Our bios does not allow us to assign specific irq's to pci slots. Good luck. -- __________________________ DJ mailto: linux_programmer@hotmail.com
