Someone posted that there was an update to X. I downloaded the rpms, installed them as per instructions, fired it up (rebooted), and the kdm logon screen looked fine, but when I logged on, I could hear the startup music, but I was still stairing at the solid yellowish screen with xconsole still in the bottom left. I thought maybe there was a conflict with something old in KDE, so I logged in as a new user, and it worked. I logged out, mv my .kde2 (in tty1), started it again, and I had my desktop. Logged back out, logged in, and the same problem, no desktop, just the blank screen with xconsole. Any ideas? I backed up to the original 4.2, and it worked again (I restored my orig .kde2). Why or how could X have messed up KDE? BTW, I have an ATI Rage fury (r128). -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: http://www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871

KDE sticks a bunch of stuff in /tmp. Do what you did before, remove the stuff in tmp, and mv the .kde out of the way and see if that helps.

I tried all that yesterday, but no luck. I just tried installing a few at a time time I found the problem package. It is the Xf86tools-0.1-219.i386.rpm. I'm not sure yet why, but it kills my desktop, so I have the older -146 version installed with all the other -64, and it works. If I can figure out what it is in that package, I'll let the list know (or if someone else can tell, please let me know). TIA :-) -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: http://www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871 < marlin="" wrote:
