Not terribly obvious, but it takes TWO [or more] filters: Absolute top-most filter: criteria: "size" "greater than" "1" action: "pipe through command" "spamc" (if using spamd, otherwise see the spamassassin documentation for the flags you would need) stop if matched: "no" [uncheck the box] note: recent posts to the kmail list suggest "size < 230000" as spamassassin chokes on large messages [hangs kmail in the process...] Second rule criteria: "x-spam-flag" "contains" "YES" (alternate) criteria: "X-spam-level" "greater or equal" "*****" action: dispose of properly ;) Spamassassin re-writes the message with additional headers which you can check in subsequent rules. "x-spam-flag" is set to YES if spamassassin "believes" the message to be spam based on the config file, "x-spam-level" contains one asterisk for the "level" detected, so you can allow marginal spam to arrive by using a spam-level greater than what spamassassin triggers on - -- Yet another Blog: http://osnut.homelinux.net -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.7 (GNU/Linux) Comment: http://osnut.homelinux.net/TomEmerson.asc iD8DBQE+f3V9V/YHUqq2SwsRAq9jAKCJMNevasIrTB9DnTcIvtKLqp7IUgCeJVRS IfN11ruYtLlABcVmcODxExg= =M1Vl -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Ummm... are you SURE you really want me to answer that? (this is going to hit you like a can of V-8, but...) "properly" may have different meanings to different people -- you can * mark as read -- stays in your inbox, but doesn't "highlight" as unread * move to folder x -- save a copy for "proof" of harrasment? * move to trash -- perhaps the most desirable for most people * forward to xxx -- perhaps an administrator, or someone whose job it is to track down and "prosecute" offenders... Well, if your situation is like most everyone elses, "just wait" -- in 10-15 minutes you should receive "some spam", and you can then check: - your inbox for new messages you know you haven't read but aren't highlighted - the "spam catcher" folder you set up to see if entries are appearing there - your trashcan to see if new items are going "straight to the trash" - with your administrator to see if he or she has received forwarded messages recently There are a couple of other things you can do to make this more visible: - in spamassassin itself, you can configure it to rewrite the SUBJECT line to contain a visual clue that "this might be spam" [the default adds *****SPAM***** to the header, I believe] - in your kmail rules, you can add an action of "execute external program", and set the command line to something like aplay /opt/OpenOffice.org/share/gallery/sounds/kling.wav or aplay /opt/OpenOffice.org/share/gallery/sounds/explos.wav then just listen for your e-mail program to "kill" messages... - -- Yet another Blog: http://osnut.homelinux.net -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.7 (GNU/Linux) Comment: http://osnut.homelinux.net/TomEmerson.asc iD8DBQE+f5lnV/YHUqq2SwsRAutsAJ9+BLtXLLxMyho0jKZCjFEfwWNW5ACgvpkf OP1e4gDlkqDkH2IrVnh/QGM= =yBoF -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Maybe because the version (in 8.1) is very old, and 2.51 has *many* extra facilities such as Bayes filtering and updated rules which better track the changing spammer tactics.
