Here's what I rec'd from Amazon when I asked why I hadn't rec'd SUSE 10.0 yet! It would appear that Novell didn't send product out to Amazon in a timely fashion. If there's a better answer, I'd like to hear it. Fred __________________________ Please accept my sincere apologies for any inconvenience you may have experienced. Sometimes unexpected fluctuations in supply can add time to our original availability estimate. We have learned that "SuSE Linux 10.0" is now back-ordered, and our supplier has not been able to let us know exactly when they expect to have more in stock. I'm sorry that you were not notified sooner of this change in availability. To help compensate you for this unexpected change, I have upgraded the shipping method for this order to express shipping at no additional charge. The estimated delivery date displayed in Your Account for this shipment is now October 25, 2005 to November 1, 2005. Please note that although we are upgrading your method of shipping, this does not lessen the amount of time it will take us to obtain the item; it merely speeds up the time it takes to get it to you once we are able to ship it. We will ship the item as soon as we are able to obtain it. You won't be charged until we ship it to you. On the date of shipment, we'll send you e-mail confirming the date, contents, and method of your shipment. We would understand if you'd prefer to cancel your order. You may cancel unshipped items through the "Your Account" page, accessible at the top of any page on our web site. To cancel your order, simply click "Cancel items or orders." After signing in with your e-mail address and password, you will be able to view your order history and cancel your order for any item that has not yet entered the shipping process. Pete (G6NJR) told me last night that the UK distributor (Holborn Books) sent him a reply saying they have not yet received stock. May be they left finalising the distro contents to the latest possible moment and I wonder if later shipments will differ from the ones already sent out. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ... You guys should have ordered from SUSE. I received my copy on the 6th. In fact, it arrived less than 12 hours after they sent the shipping notice!

I sent an e-mail to Holborn Books two weeks ago, asking a question regarding SUSE10. No reply yet. I also sent an e-mail to Linuxemporium/Chy Gwyn about SUSE10. Received a reply seventeen minutes later! I have had so many problems with 9.3 that I am still wondering whether to go to the expense of buying 10. Capped broadband here, so no chance of downloading it! No further comment! Keith
Same story here. I pre-ordered from my usual distributor in the Netherlands (before the free shipping offer from Novell). On previous releases they usually had it on my doorstep by the end of release day. This time around, they STILL don't have stock.... I checked with the other major distributors across the country (the ones I know/use) and no one has it. It's kinda disappointing to see a full week go by after the official release date... but even more so to hear from all the others that already received their nice shiny new copy. I know I could download the isos, but I prefer the box set - I've bought every release since 6.2, and it's become a habit. :-P Everyone I know here in the NL that preordered their copy is very very disapointed in the delays... most are saying they won't bother buying the next box set when 10.1 is released... they'll just download the isos. The moral of this story is... someone dropped the ball, and Novell/SUSE is loosing future revenue... not loosing fans, but people that would pay for the next release aren't going to bother next time around. :-(

Perhaps you were too polite with Holborn Books, Pete went in with hobnail boots and received a quick response. Hmmmm.... 9.2 was where all the problems were and just install type problems. Once it was up, it was solid, 9.3 x86 and x86_64 just glided on my boxes with no complaints, so 10.0 should be as easy. I'm eagerly awaiting delivery of 10.0 so I can do the upgrades, I already have my Mandriva boxes updated to 2006, one box with addition of DVB card and SCSI disks 9.1 -> 9.2 -> 10.0 -> 10.1 -> LE 2005 -> 2006 no bother, the second one 10.1 -> LE 2005 -> 2006 also very sound. Capped broadband for a captive population, a ripoff that is at odds with current trends. I started with Telewest ISDN (~£200 to £300+ a month), converted to unlimited broadband 500K (£29.99/mo), upgraded to 1M (£39.99/mo), then free upgrade to 2M (£37.99/mo, now £35.00/mo) and free 10M upgrade any time between now and early next year (£35.00/mo). I can also see more price pressure once Sky gets going properly and if the NTL takeover of Telewest doesn't degrade the service to typical NTL levels. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ... Indeed. Ordering from Amazon might have been marginally cheaper, but I'm happy to support SUSE with my wallest. Not to mention that ordering from Novell directly seems to be a lot faster. :-) Kurt -- Scrubbing floors and emptying bedpans has as much dignity as the Presidency. -- Richard Nixon

'Probably should have, but it was cheaper from Amazon, which was before SUSE had the special with no shipping cost. Fred -- Paid purchaser of ALL SuSE Linux releases since 7.x
