winbind (samba) performance in large domains
Hi, what are your experiences using winbind (from the samba package) in large domains, say with some 10,000 users? I have set up a test box (celeron 1000, 512 mb ram, suse 8.1) and see a cpu usage of 100% for some seconds after each login, similar times for doing a "ls -l" or "ps -A". On the other hand, "ls -n" does need almost no time, obviously because it does not do any uid-to-username resolution. Regards, Heiko
We successfully run winbind in an environment of about 150 users.
The only problems we've seen is that our NT servers which we authenticate
to throw up authenticate pipe errors from time to time.
We certainly do not see any high loads or anything on our linux boxers
though!
Kind regards,
Paul Miles

Thanks for you answer. Could you please post the parts of your smb.conf that affect especially winbind, but also general samba (performance)? Perhaps there is something I didn't consider... What version of SuSE Linux and samba do you use? Kind regards Heiko Paul Miles wrote:
