M$ plans to secure their mono^h^h^h^h OS

The operative term here is *Trustworthy*. I suggest we ask IBM, WordPerfect, Novell, and Netscape about M$ being worthy of trust. Steven
I have read a few brief articles on this, and my first thought was...'wow, I hope Linux doesn't have to use this to survive' I mean this is a legitimate Linux concern. How might Linux and its community be affected by this? To my understanding they are going to store some seriously personal information on your computer that even the user can't access, or backup if a reformat is needed (according to one report). Then this information is passed through massive databases (of course owned by microsoft, with access to it by US gov't agencies) so you can reconnect at any terminal anywhere and obtain this personal data (for the matter of 'convenience and security'). If this is the way of the future for the OS market (heaven forbid! please let me off this train now! =), how might the Linux community (well, in my case that is SuSE, since it's the only Linux OS that I use) combat, or use (beneficially) this new invading technology? Quite honestly it scares me that I won't have a choice to *not* use this 'secure technology'...right now my choice is to use Linux, BSD, Solaris, etc. ...but if this succeeds, will I still have those choices? Or will it be a "jump on the bandwagon or die" concept for OS makers like SuSE? -Jeric : -----Original Message----- : From: Steven T.
