I would like to make a copy of the DVD for carrying around in my CD pouch (where discs do get scratched. The 9.2 DVD is a dual layer, with about 8GB of data on one side. Both the x86 and x86-64 versions are on one side. I need only the x86, and dual layer writeables are expensive, never mind the fact that I don't have access to a dual layer burner... Is there a way to make a bootable DVD that contains everything *except* the x86-64 files? Thanks -- Kind regards Hans du Plooy Newington Consulting Services hansdp at newingtoncs dot co dot za
I just tried to reduce it. It make a 4.8 Gb disc ... without the 64 bits files. Anyone have another idea ? We spent a little time on monday looking at doing this, the problem we ran into though is that x86 on its own is still larger than 4.7Gb. Admittedly we didnt spend a hell of alot of time looking at it so there may be more you can strip out. Regards, Ben

Have you thought about removing all the language specific files for languages you are not interested in (at install time at least). All the spelling dictionaries, HOWTOs, heplfiles must take a fair bit of space. Cosmo

It s possible to remove kernel-versions and language-files you never will install. I failed to master a new iso. Booting ends with checksum error but someone wrote me that the made an working image using the windows-tool ultra-iso.

I belive the term I'm looking for here is 'Doh' Man pages alone take up about 50-100 megs. Of course this way could lead into severe dependency hell, IIRC suse-kde extensions are dependent on the help system. Still its worth a try. Thanks, Ben
