Can anyone recommend a DVD player that works in SuSE. (plays both cds and dvds) I'm thinking an I/O magic as I can't find any of the devices on the hardware compatibility lists in shops. Thanks Thom Nuzum thom@cavtel.net
Hi, Both MPlayer (www.mplayerhq.hu) and xine (http://xinehq.de) can play DVDs. You can find updated RPMS on Packman's site (http://packman.links2linux.org) Regards, Alin. Thom Nuzum wrote:

Pretty much every IDE DVD player should work. Any recent DVD player will work , though I would suggest to stay away from LG and rebranded Lg's as their firmware is buggy ... Pioneer DVD Slot 106 Cheap. Works a treat. And no tray to break! -- SuSE Linux 8.2 (i586) Linux 2.4.20-4GB-athlon
Thanks.

how about one that does +R and -R ( can't make a plus/minus sign here.) Looking for one that would then also become the main backup setup as well as just generally saving time w/ installing Suse9.0 ( or any version , come to that<G>)

Can't beat the Plextor 708A. (And I tried to break the tray off it one night by rotating my office chair into it. Tray twisted completely out but I just shoved it back in. Working just fine.) -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + Bruce S. Use the "compose" key combo on any xterm/console (it can be redefined). [shift][ctrl],[+],[-] (release after ",") Ie, [compose],[+],[-] --> "±R" -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

Carlos, That's cool ! It,doesn't work real well w/ the zaurus C760 tho. ( small zippy handheld Linux ,embeded computer) But I'm sure going to try that on a real keyboard when I next come in contact w/ one ;^) .The Z" has a specialistic keyboard, and things just aren't here at all,or are some sort of weird fn combo that requires " funny shaped hands " to execute. At least the builtin keyboard has bigger keys than thr 5x00 series. ;^) , and there is the added advantage of increasing my Nihon go. (yeah, the keyboard does let one enter Japanese hiragana, katakana, and some kanji as well.)

Ah, I see. Kind of, at least O:-) Have a look at the '/etc/X11/Xmodmap' file, I think the compose key combination is defined there. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

problem with the slot dvd's & cd's is they have problems with the minidisk's, often won't accept them or loose them in the slot. Had to hold a base up with the slit pointing down to get one out a friend tried out(and yes it was a dvd). scsijon At 03:50 PM 30/10/2003, Jonathan Lim wrote:

Fair nuf. There is a tray version of that model. Splash out - get both! I must admit I've not seen one of those small discs for ages. I thought they'd gone the way of the 5 1.4" and betamax. When they first came out they were quite a novelty. And of course those people who made business cards out of CDs. What DVDs can you get in that format? -- SuSE Linux 8.2 (i586) Linux 2.4.20-4GB-athlon
