Message-ID: <3A0E0653.1437CB46@lightlink.com> Date: Sat, 11 Nov 2000 21:54:11 -0500 From: "Fred A. Miller" <fmiller@lightlink.com> Subject: Lexmark Z52 "update." I wasn't able to get Netscape nor StarOffice to print to the Z52. I'd been so busy, I'd not taken the time to clean up printcap! I deleted all the ljet4 crap out of it, and now it works with both....even though there's NOT a Z52 driver supplied by S.O. Use the "generic" driver, and ALL of the dpi settings are available, as is paper, etc. Lexmark really did a GOOD job with this driver. Fred -- If you listen on a quiet night, you can hear the sound of an NT Server reboot.

I need some help with this printer I finally bought one and installed it, and all went well until i tried to print with it. The test page printed fine, but when I tried to print from kmail nothing happened. The text console showed that the owner was wrong i changed that to lp, but it still doesnt work i tried to install it thru yast but yast did not recognize it I then went back to the older printcap file from before using yast still no dice the text console shows no error when I try to print both the print queue apps in kde show nothing what do i do next? -- Bob Rea Freedom is only privilege extended unless enjoyed by one and all --Billy Bragg rear@sirius.com http://www.sirius.com/~rear

go to the lexmark webpage, they have an rpm for this printer.
this printer works very well and is quite versatile. i installed the rpm from the lexmark site with no problems. after that type <lexmarkz52> to start an application that gives you full control of the printer, 600dpi draft to 2400dpi photo. the rpm write to printcap so applications can find the printer. you can alsp print thus: lpr -Plexmarkz52 <filename> it sure is a big improvement over fussing with hp ink jets. the print quality is very good. you can get a 6 color photo cartrage. the only problem i had was when i tried to install it on a machine running slackware with an older kernal. the rpm didn't like that. good luck Michael Hasenstein wrote:
