Blackdown Java or Sun Java in 8.2?
Hi, I found two Java packages in SuSE 8.2 - Blackdown Java or Sun Java. Which of them I should install? Is Sun Java 1.41 in SuSE 8.2 still compiled with old gcc 2.9xx, resulting compatability issues with software like Mozilla? Thanks in advance for any suggestion. ***************************************************************** * Best Regards --- Andrei Verovski --- StarLett Ltd * * Tel# --- (371) 7703144 * * Fax# --- (371) 7530400 * * e-mail --- starlett@starlett.lv * * WEB --- www.starlett.lv * * Address --- Bikernieku str 121p, Riga, LV1079 * * Republic of Latvia * * _________________________________________________________ * * Computer, Pre-press, Digital Offset, Printing Equipment * * _________________________________________________________ * * Personal mail --- andrei@starlett.lv * *****************************************************************

I would suggest using the blackdown java. I know one of the guys over at Sun that are resposible for building the Java pkgs for Linux (suse doesn't make them) and they are compiled on Redhat 6.2. The management at Sun won't upgrade their build system as of yet. So it's another case of upper management not doing their job right. The blackdown java works just fine ..in fact I believe that's what SuSE 8.2 defaults to when installing a java package. -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org Tell me what you believe.. I'll tell you what you should see.

my experience with blackdown has only been when required for doing oracle installs. However, lately I recall seeing that the new mozilla install directories were changed.....I don't recall if using one of these 2 java packages helps that or not..... ps. for doing oracle stuff...the blackdown works like a charm.
Thanks in advance for any suggestion.
