I think that I upgraded my nvidia drivers in both distros. In 11.3 from an older version and in 12.1 from nouveau. Nothing noticeable in 11.3 but a major change in 12.1. screen is cleaner and sharper and video DVDs play properly, but my menus and task bar apps have gottern smaller and bearly readable. As an aside question will different drivers affect the dpi?
To start with, what is the command to identify the drivers that are nstalled and working?
Bob S
Look in Software Management and search on nvidia. Thanks. That tells me that I am using the installed G02 (390) drivrers for the kmp kernel and X11. Can't believve that is the only way tell. Try "lspci -v" (may have to do it as root). On a system here it reports, for the video card.... 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G92 [GeForce GT 230] (rev a2) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Device 1b0a:9044 Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 16 Memory at fa000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16M] Memory at d0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M] Memory at f8000000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=32M] I/O ports at cc00 [size=128] Expansion ROM at fbce0000 [disabled] [size=128K] Capabilities: <access denied> Kernel driver in use: nouveau Kernel modules: nouveau, nvidiafb -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Ed, James, thanks a lot. Here is mine. 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G98 [GeForce 8400 GS] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Device 196e:05cf Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 19 Memory at df000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16M] Memory at c0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M] Memory at dc000000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=32M] I/O ports at ef80 [size=128] [virtual] Expansion ROM at defe0000 [disabled] [size=128K] Capabilities: [60] Power Management version 3 Capabilities: [68] MSI: Enable- Count=1/1 Maskable- 64bit+ Capabilities: [78] Express Endpoint, MSI 00 Kernel driver in use: nvidia That tells me my card and that the driver is in the kernel but not which driverr. But Martin has the answer. See his reply. Bob S -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
