[S.u.S.E. Linux] Newbie

Can someone help me on this I have compiled my own kernel with Suse linux (followed the instructions for lilo and everyting) done it before with slackware without any problems the system boots up and after my disks are initialized the system stops (i suspect some missing file for booting the the init files) I checked out all the possible help files but can't find a solution PLEASE HELP ME OUT HERE!!!!! - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

After you copied the zImage to /vmlinuz did you remember to run /sbin/lilo again? That can cause that sort of hang at boot time. M.Jordan wrote:

I guess that you've compiled in something that isn't on your system, or incompatible. I am assuming you saved your old kernel image and the settings for that kernel. Look to see what key differences between the new kernel and old kernel with: make menuconfig If you started out with one of the SuSE preinstall kernels, I believe that they include a lot of things like chipset bug fixes. I would profile your entire machine from mboard chipsets to mouse type and make sure I have everything associated with those devices are compiled in the kernel.
