After you copied the zImage to /vmlinuz did you remember to run
/sbin/lilo again? That can cause that sort of hang at boot time.

I guess that you've compiled in something that isn't on your system, =
or incompatible. I am assuming you saved your old kernel image and the setti=
ngs for that kernel. Look to see what key differences between the new kernel=
and old kernel with:
make menuconfig
If you started out with one of the SuSE preinstall kernels, I believe=
that they include a lot of things like chipset bug fixes.
I would profile your entire machine from mboard chipsets to mouse typ=
e and make sure I have everything associated with those devices are compiled =
in the kernel.

Can someone help me on this
I have compiled my own kernel with Suse
linux (followed the instructions for lilo and everyting)
done it before with slackware without any problems
the system boots up and after my disks are initialized
the system stops (i suspect some missing file for booting
the the init files) I checked out all the possible help files
but can't find a solution PLEASE HELP ME OUT HERE!!!!!
