Usually it is solved using YaST Online Update (YOU), which will update zypper/libzypp, restart and let you finish the rest, but it should be possible with "zypper in -f zypper libzypp". Though, I didn't checked that as I'm already past that point, of updating zypper and libzypp. I wasn't sure what "-f" (force) will do so I asked first "zypper in --help" that told me: -f, --force Install even if the item is already installed (reinstall) The same information and much more can be found in man pages. -- Regards, Rajko http://en.opensuse.org/Portal needs helpful hands. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

There is a new bug reported, just about ConsoleKit: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=412794 Add your problem to that bug report. If it is not related they will tell you to open new bug report. I should look before, but it appeared as a old problem that was fixed with zypper update, so first thought was that zypper is not patched. I noted the bug -- and thought to email the bug-author to get his comments before butting-in. Just add your problem to the bug report. It is some problem with a package ConsoleKit and the guy that is packager will know the best how to troubleshoot the problem. The reporter is a busy man keeping bunch of openSUSE related packages on Packman up to date. As I mentioned, I have latest versions installed and I can't recollect having a problem. Looking in man zypper Did you tried to clean cache. It could be corrupt. To cleanup all, run: zypper clean -all zypper refresh should give some result. Also check for doubled repositories of the same kind, or: zypper lr -e myrepos and post file myrepos.repo -- Regards, Rajko http://en.opensuse.org/Portal needs helpful hands. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

might i ask -- a bug in what, specifically? Zypper? ConsoleKit? Yast? something else? since the repeated "(re)install zypper" advice here is going nowhere, if you have a reference to said "bug", i'll engage directly there. thanks. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The solver tells you that it can't install the patch to fix the ConsoleKit package, so it asks you if it is ok to deinstall ConsoleKit. You shouldn't do that, of course, ConsoleKit is needed by many other packages. Basically this means that the update repository is broken, it doesn't contain a newer version of "ConsoleKit-32bit". It'll be fixed soon, hopefully. Spoke to soon. The "do not keep..." line above indicates that you have locked the "ConsoleKit-32bit" package. Please remove the lock. deinstall ConsoleKit. You shouldn't do that, of course, ConsoleKit is needed by many other packages.
noticed that! and, a deinstall always forces a swap of arch for many pkgs from x86_64 -> i586. _not_ something that i thought was wise to do.
