It seems that either you lost you password or that your machine has been hacked... What you need is a rescue disk... either download one from suse or use a your suse bootdisk to boot installed system... under yast... Jonathan

Hey, try this: Load up your boot disk and then System Installation. Put the live cdrom (disk 4) in your cd-rom. Boot the rescue system (it will be a choice from your menu). It will boot the system off the cd-rom and loads the OS into the ramdisk. After that, mount the hard drive with your root file system (or where /etc/passwd exists) to some mopunt point on the rescue system (/mnt works). Then, if you totally want to restore your old /etc/passwd file, copy /etc/passwd over the old version (in this case /mnt/etc/passwd). Shutdown the system properly and boot off your normal root system on the harddrive.
