Put the live cdrom (disk 4) in your cd-rom. Boot the rescue system (it will be a choice from your menu). It will boot the system off the cd-rom and loads the OS into the ramdisk. After that, mount the hard drive with your root file system (or where /etc/passwd exists) to some mopunt point on the rescue system (/mnt works). Then, if you totally want to restore your old /etc/passwd file, copy /etc/passwd over the old version (in this case /mnt/etc/passwd). Shutdown the system properly and boot off your normal root system on the harddrive. As it loads, you will get the prompts to enter give root a password, if you desire, just like after and initial install.=20 I hope that helps you out, svet On Tue, 7 Apr 1998, Ganbayar Aleksei wrote: >=20 > Hi > It seems that i`ve lost my root password. > When i try "su" I get message "Sorry" > Does anybody know how to recover /etc/passwrd > with user account. > Please help!! > =20 >=20 > ______________________________________________________ > Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com> > -- > To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with > this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e >=20 -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e --===============6201123474067311139==--
