Hello SuSE people, Running 10.0 and KDE3.5.1 In my non KDE apps, Firefox, NVU, GQView etc. the fonts are normally very small. I installed and use gnome-control-center to make the fonts readable and comparable to the KDE settings. Works just fine, except when I shut-down and reboot the fonts in those apps revert to their original size. I just have to open gnome-control-center and close it again to regain the font size I want. Question is: Where and what do I do to have the settings maintained between reboots? It is probably some init file at boot but which one and what do I put in there? Bob S.

Put gnome-settings-daemon in your autostart folder. Charles -- printk("WE HAVE A BUG HERE!!! stk=0x%p\n", stk); linux-2.6.6/drivers/block/cciss_scsi.c

Ummmm...Thanks Charles, Where do I put that? /opt/kde3/share/desktop ?? ......./opt/kde3/share/apps/? Could you be a little more specific for a dummy like me? Bob S.

Since you use KDE, the easist way is to symlink the file to the "Autostart" folder on your desktop (the corresponding directory is ~/Desktop/Autostart). OK, but don't have a /home/bob/Desktop/Autostart folder. Do have an /opt/kde3/share/autostart where I symlinked the daemon though. Doesn't work. I suspect that file doesn't do anything though because there is lots of stuff in there that I don't get on my desktop. Is there a configuration file somewhere that I can change the default gnome font size? Bob S.

Bob S.
Try putting it in /home/bob/.kde/Autostart You won't get anything from /opt/kde3/share/autostart on your desktop; that is only for stuff that starts automatically for every kde user. Your desktop material is located in <home>/Desktop

Hi Bob, Would you be willing to do a brief experiment? Create or edit the file ~/.gtkrc-2.0 Put in a line like this: gtk-font-name = "Adobe Helvetica 12" Use a typeface and size that you *know* is installed on your system. You can find an appropriate candidate in KDE Control Center under the fonts installer module. Be sure to enter the name in .gtkrc-2.0 *exactly* as it appears in Control Center. Can you please confirm that this solution "sticks" between boots? This is the third time I've seen such a thread. I'm sure this procedure worked for me and has worked for others. It's supposed to make autoloading Gnome Control Center unnecessary when you're running KDE... It would be nice to have an 'in situ' real life confirmation that it still works. regards, - Carl

Hi Bob,

Love to! That is what it is all about for me.

OK Did Exactly as you specified.

Nope, sorry !! Just doesn't "stick". Just need to knock down X and restart. Still have to bring up the Gnome-Contro;-Center to start the daemon. Don't even have to change anything, just open it and close it. Maybe this should be a requested feature ??

Wish I could have confirmed it. Even tried a couple of different installed fonts. Sorry. Bob S.
