I have a pentium machine with suse 9.0 installed and working. It is connected to the network through an ethernet card eth0, correctly configured and it was working properly until some days ago. Now during boot suse says that it is filing in setting up eth0. How can one know what is the problem? I've checked the configuration and it is ok. I've taken a look at boot.msg but found no hint also. thanks in advance -- []s Herbert ----------------------------------- Departamento de Física de Materiais Instituto de Física Universidade de São Paulo -----------------------------------

See if "rcnetwork restart" works. Check if the module for your ethernet card is loaded, depends on the card. It could also be a card gone faulty. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce .... Hamradio G3VBV and keen Flyer =====LINUX ONLY USED HERE=====

Some NICs (especially onboard) sometimes fail to initialize. It happened to me as well, after a recent update. I guess something in the kernel was changed. But recently in the list there was a thread about it, and how to change setting to give the card more time to initialize.
