I'm trying to start apache2 and mysql by using the yast runlevel editor in 9.2 but it fails.I can start both fine from the command line. There are no clues in the logs. Any ideas where to look? Thanks, Steve.

Try chkconfig --list apache2 chkconfig --list mysql See what it says. Scott -- POPFile, the OpenSource EMail Classifier http://popfile.sourceforge.net/ Linux 2.6.5-7.111-default x86_64

Try
chkconfig --list apache2 chkconfig --list mysql

Hi. I get this: polop:/home/steve # chkconfig --list apache2 apache2 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:off 4:off 5:off 6:off polop:/home/steve # chkconfig --list mysql mysql 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:off 4:off 5:off 6:off

Well, that means they are all turned off. I'd try doing insserv apache2 insserv mysql to enable them. I have no clue why the runlevel editor in 9.2 won't do it for you. Scott -- POPFile, the OpenSource EMail Classifier http://popfile.sourceforge.net/ Linux 2.6.5-7.111-default x86_64

Both commands give segmentation faults. Where to look next. . .?

Whoa, that's serious. I have no clue what's wrong. Hopefully someone with more knowledge on the subject will come along. Bet that explains why the runlevel editor isn't working, probably the same segmentation faults are happening there behind the scenes. Not good. It suggests, perhaps, a shared library version incompatibility / mistmatch. Or, possibly, a corrupted executable or shared library file. Another possibility is a hardware problem, but that would probably produce abnormal symptoms in other situations, too. In any event, this is in no way normal. Something is wrong with your system. I had problems like this when I had a hard drive going bad. It never generated any errors until it REALLY went. Jim

Hi everyone. I had just installed ddclient with yast and followed the instructions in /usr/share/doc/packages/ddclient/README to run it as a daemon. I've now removed ddclient and all is well. I'm taking up the ddclient issue in another thread. Thanks to all who gave their time. Steve.
