Hello group: I would like to install Ximian Evolution on my SuSE 9.1 Linux, as an alternative to KDE KMail. Is this application in the list of software supplied with version 9.1? As I recall, Evolution is part of the Gnome desktop. Can Evolution be used with the KDE desktop? Does it need to be downloaded, or is the part of the software on the CD, or is it copied to the hard drive during installation? I was able to get the wireless network card configured properly and it is now working. I had apparently neglected to configure the card for DHCP the first time around, and that is obviously why did not work. Thanks in advance for any help. Kindest regards, Glenn

I have been using Evolution with KDE for many years and like it's many features. Should find it on the CD's/DVD without problem. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989 SuSE since 1998 * Only reply to the list please*
Yes, you can use Evolution in KDE. It does have Gnome requirements, but install it via YAST and it'll tell you all the dependencies it will download and install. -- Khanh Tran Network Operations Sarah Lawrence College On Sat, 2004-11-27 at 18:26, Glenn Williams wrote:

It is supplied with the Pro version of 9.1, and may require installing. You'll find it on the CD's. If you have the APT application setup and configured then you can use that to get and install Evolution. {snip} Mike

Good call.
Is this application in the list of software supplied with version 9.1?
Yes, it is, although the version included in 9.1 is from the (now obsolete) 1.4 tree. The latest version, 2.0.2 is available from http://usr-local-bin.org/rpms
As I recall, Evolution is part of the Gnome desktop.
Yes, it is.
Can Evolution be used with the KDE desktop?
Yes, it can, it will simply load the required libraries when it runs, and start the necessary background services.
Does it need to be downloaded, or is the part of the software on the CD, or is it copied to the hard drive during installation?
If you have the personal edition, or want to use 2.0.x - it needs to be downloaded. If you have the professional edition and are happy to use 1.4.x, it's on your CD, and yes, software is always copied to the hard disk on installation. -- James Ogley james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://rubberturnip.org.uk Currently playing: Radio Five Live
