I'd like to map user names on different hosts to the same ID when they're communicating using NFS. There's a program, ugidd.rpc, that handles that. The problem is that ugidd.rpc appears to be incompatible with the kernel-based version of NFS. Has anyone found a way to do what ugidd.rpc does with a kernel-based NFS server? Paul Abrahams

Correction: it's rpc.ugidd, not ugidd.rpc. Paul Abrahams

I assume you mean all users should access the nfs shares with the same user and group id? If so then look at the anaonuid and anongid options for the exports file (man exports) HTH Dylan

Another way could be to use NIS for authentication. That would keep UID's and GID's that same across all platforms (unix that is). -- Ken Schneider unix user since 1989 linux user since 1994 SuSE user since 1998 (5.2)
