Hi, Maybe this forum can help. I am trying to understand how and I made this system avoid from having to use swap are when there is sufficiently memory left not used and in buffers? I have not found any clear documentation as to how to minimize this situation. Any clues? total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 513448 455800 57648 0 36908 304612 -/+ buffers/cache: 114280 399168 Swap: 530136 6264 523872 Total: 1043584 462064 581520 Pentium III - 512MB - 30GB HD - SuSE 8.0 - Domino 5.0.10 - Only used as Mailserver for 35 users. I have not found any documentation, but I can tell you what I think about this. First, this is not a problem at all. Second, those pages of memory will be written to memory when the program which owns them will access them. If the kernel really copies them BEFORE it, it is wasting time. Praise
