How to install packets without YaST
Hi! I need to setup additional software on remote host with SuSE 8.2 installed on it. When I try to start yast I get this error: #yast2 warning: the ncurses frontend is installed but does not work You need to install yast2-ncurses to use the YaST2 text mode interface The yast2-ncurses-2.7.13-7 and ncurses-5.3-28 are instaled. I can see it in rpm -qa output. What does it meen this error? Which other tools can I use for adding software? I know about rpm and console ftp-client of course , but how to trace dependency inside rpms ? Any ideas? Who does it know how to repare yast? Thanks for your support! -- Best regards Alexandr R. If you do ldd /usr/lib/YaST2/plugin/libpy2ncurses.so.2 you will get one or more lines with "not found" on them. You need to find and install the missing packages, whichever they may be
I had this sort of problem recently and the main issue was that having got the same error message neither yast nor rpm would install anything. Discovered the "repair installation" option on the boot-dvd which sorted it. HTH F
