[opensuse] security patch 2016-629 kernel NO KEY error
I was trying to run a zypper patch, and when it went to download kernel 4.5.0-9.1, it says NOKEY. It started like this: ----------------- # zypper lp Retrieving repository ... [unclipped this part] [done] Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... Repository | Name | Category | Severity | Interactive | Status | Summary --------------------------+-------------------+-------------+-----------+-------------+--------+------------------------------------- Main Update Repository | openSUSE-2016-629 | security | important | reboot | needed | Security update for the Linux Kernel openSUSE-Leap-42.1-Update | openSUSE-2016-629 | security | important | reboot | needed | Security update for the Linux Kernel Main Update Repository | openSUSE-2016-640 | recommended | moderate | --- | needed | Recommended update for lvm2 openSUSE-Leap-42.1-Update | openSUSE-2016-640 | recommended | moderate | --- | needed | Recommended update for lvm2 --------------------------- Those 2 repos are as follows: Main Repository (NON-OSS) http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap/42.1/repo/non-oss/ openSUSE-Leap-42.1-Update http://download.opensuse.org/update/leap/42.1/oss/ ------------------------- The error was this: Retrieving package kernel-default-4.5.0-9.1.gc3d2a95.x86_64 (1/11), 49.0 MiB (233.3 MiB unpacked) kernel-default-4.5.0-9.1.gc3d2a95.x86_64.rpm: Header V3 RSA/SHA1 Signature, key ID 03579c1d: NOKEY V3 RSA/SHA1 Signature, key ID 03579c1d: NOKEY --------------------------- Any idea why the signature key might not exist on a security kernel update from the standard repos? Or maybe it exists, but for some reason my pc isn't seeing it? -- George Box: 42.1 | KDE Plasma 5 | AMD Phenom IIX4 | 64 | 32GB Laptop #1: 42.1 | KDE Plasma 5 | Core i7-4710HQ | 64 | 16GB Laptop #2: 42.1 | KDE Plasma 5 | Core i5 | 64 | 8GB -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

There is no kernel 4.5 in standard Leap 42.1 (nor will there be in 42.2). You must be using some extra repo. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thank you. I figured it out. I had to download kernel 4.5 for my small laptop a couple of months ago to get the wireless working, and I always synchronize my downloads folder, so that copy of the kernel was in my downloads folder. When I went to run the patch on my desktop here, and it tried to upgrade the kernel, it took the one from my downloads folder. At the time I had not gotten the key for it (I don't really know how to do that), so that is why there was an issue. Solved by just adding the kernel repository and that way I will always end up with the latest one. Don't know if that is a good idea or not, or if it will cause me to have to reboot more frequently, but that is what I did. -- George Box: 42.1 | KDE Plasma 5 | AMD Phenom IIX4 | 64 | 32GB Laptop #1: 42.1 | KDE Plasma 5 | Core i7-4710HQ | 64 | 16GB Laptop #2: 42.1 | KDE Plasma 5 | Core i5 | 64 | 8GB -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

On 2nd thought, maybe that wasn't such a good idea. I can't reboot into that kernel - I have to reboot into the old kernel. It boots up to a point, and it looks like it freezes before it is able to open sddm and give me the login screen. Any ideas? I tried putting "nomodeset" at the kernel line in grub, but it still wouldn't get in. -- George Box: 42.1 | KDE Plasma 5 | AMD Phenom IIX4 | 64 | 32GB Laptop #1: 42.1 | KDE Plasma 5 | Core i7-4710HQ | 64 | 16GB Laptop #2: 42.1 | KDE Plasma 5 | Core i5 | 64 | 8GB -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
