[opensuse] Quick Help! - is it OK to ssh, su and umount and re-'mount' /home?
List, Probably a silly question, but before I did it and ended up driving if I'm wrong, I though I would ask. So, is it OK to umount and mount /home over a ssh link? If so, how do I first set it as read-only so all files close before I unmount it? The partition is on /dev/sdb1. Thanks -- David C. Oops, sorry, it would help to know what I'm trying to do. I need to unmount home change the 'acl' mount option to 'noacl' and remount the partition. I have some program at the office that is now setting acl after samba upgrade to samba-3.2.4-0.1.130. Again, thanks! -- David C. How about simply remounting? mount -o remount, noacl /home I just tried the noacl bit on my home partition and nothing came crashing down. Don't know about over ssh, but I would guess it should work. -- Don -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Don, Carlos, Ben, Thanks all for your help! Mission Accomplished .. He proclaims as he grandly steps onto the deck of the flag draped carrier. mount -o remount, noacl /home Worked like a champ. I guess the mount remount is the key to keeping the filesystem from complaining about the pending unmount when files are open. Oops Forgot, For those of you not familiar with basket note pads, here are a few screenshots of what the KDE app looks like and some of the stuff you can do with it. Another relatively unknown benefit of it is the ability to export baskets as html pages. You can export the entire basket and all sub-baskets or just export one sub-basket. This thing stores all different kinds of files and handles links as well. Very handy. The screenshots are ~150k each: Showing general note handling and example of basket hierarchy. The second shot is basically the same but shows the bottom half of the folders on the left: http://www.3111skyline.com/download/screenshots/kde/basket-notepads.jpg http://www.3111skyline.com/download/screenshots/kde/basket-notepads1.jpg Showing example of sound file handling (yep, they play when you click them with whatever app you configure them to): http://www.3111skyline.com/download/screenshots/kde/basket-notepads-sounds.j... Could you please explain what changed regarding the ACL handling with this Samba version? Please also state which repository and which SUSE product you're using. btw "inherit acls = Yes" is in use for the homes share of the default SUSE smb.conf since 2004-09-13.
