Which integrated desktop manager (was RE: Which Linux?

Again from Novell PR Blog (same URL)
"This decision has very little impact on either the openSUSE project or future versions of SUSE Linux. SUSE Linux will continue to showcase the newest open source desktop, development, and server technologies in a complete, stabilized operating system. SUSE Linux will continue to deliver both the GNOME and the KDE desktop environments along with the latest open source packages for those environments."
No mention of the default.
I don't think that it matters which is "default". For the purposes of users who favor one or the other desktop environment, what is important is the amount and quality of work that the distribution creators have put into customizing the one that the user prefers. Those of us who have tried a few different distros are aware that there can be a big difference in: - appearance - integration - ease and comfort of use between GNOME as it comes from GNOME.org and GNOME as it appears when fully integrated and prettied-up by loving distribution developers (or similarly between KDE as it comes from KDE.org and KDE as it appears when fully integrated and prettied-up by loving SuSE developers) who have created their own theme, organized the menus and taken pains to make a comfortable and seamless experience. If you are upgrading from a previous SuSE version, the upgrade should notice your preference and retain it in the new install/upgrade. If you are installing fresh, you get a choice of which to use - I favor having the choice to use both, and to switch between 'em when I log in. Now, declaring one or the other desktop as the default _may_ indicate that the non-default is not getting the same attention to detail, but it doesn't have to be that way, does it? Anyway, THAT is the thing I'd want addressed by the Novell blog or by somebody's semi-official statements on the list... if it was that important to me in the first place. Don't tell me that KDE is or is not the default. Tell me whether the KDE that I can invoke is much better integrated than the vanilla KDE that I can download from KDE.org. Tell me whether the GNOME that I can invoke is much better integrated than the vanilla GNOME that I can download from GNOME.org. Well, tell other people anyway. As I say, it's not that important to me, but I think that that is the aspect that is important to those to whom this stuff is ... important. Or something like that.
