[SLE] Windows 98SE Peer to peer networking and a linux box
I am just now installing SuSE Linux on my laptop and was wondering if it will be able to communicate with my existing windows 98se peer-to-peer network. Specifically, if it can participate in my Internet connection sharing. My laptop unfortunately has an integrated winmodem and of course we all know what kind of support winmodems have in Linux (not!) so I'm left up the river without a paddle... Any suggestions of where to find good info on this would be much appreciated. Hi, Participating in Windows network has nothing to do with "internet connection" sharing. For the former, you need to install samba on your linux machine (laptop). For the latter, you will have to buy some software for your Win98 box to allow it to share the ppp connection. There are a few available I don't know the names though. I hope this is what you meant to ask. Nadeem Kamala Kropinak wrote:

Win98se has connection sharing built in.

You should just be able to point it to the windows machine for the
gateway.
I do it the other way around but all I have to do is set the gateway to
the
connected computers ip.
If your winmodem is a Lucent like my laptop has, there are linux drivers
out
for them. I can't remember the website.
